WATCH: Living on one dollar

We all know that there are many people in the world who live in poverty. Poverty has become a part of people’s lives even in the most cosmopolitan of cities – but only because we hear about it so much and are urged to do something about it so often. But after hearing about it and donating our share of X amount of whatever to whichever charity, we go back to the love of our families, fill our stomachs with delicious food, and fall asleep comfortably in the warmth of our cosy beds. Because poverty isn’t our entire life, it’s just a part of it.

In 2010, four friends decided to change that. They decided to find out what it really feels like to live under the poverty line and make poverty as much a part of their lives as it is for the people who live it every single day. So they travelled to Guatemala. And then they spent the next 56 days on just 1 dollar each.

Living on One Dollar documents the experience these four young men put themselves through and gives us an idea of this world we are so unaware of. Rather than taking the easy way out through donating money or other material goods, these men made poverty an issue that they understood on a much deeper level than they ever thought they could  and an issue that touched their hearts on a much more personal level than it otherwise would have.

Watch how other people around the world are doing the same. This group of friends lived on $1 a day for 28 days in Haiti.
