Global climate change is an issue which has haunted much of the industrialised world for the last decade. Almost all scientists, politicians, and people in general acknowledge industrialised nations’ culpability for the damage, but finding the motivation to enact societal changes to fix that damage has proven difficult. Assessing the costs of climate change is impossible. Nobody alive has had any real experience dealing with global catastrophes. And in our highly monetised and capitalistic society, this leads to unacceptable and dangerous inaction.
Back in 2007, a video was released by a high school teacher in the US titled “The Most Terrifying Video You’ll Ever See”. Is it actually terrifying? Yes and no. No in the sense that there are no zombies, but yes in the sense that the video shows the implications of humanity’s inaction on climate change. In a short nine minutes, Greg Craven (the teacher) manages to concoct a simple yet startlingly effective argument for pursuing climate change. Watch it and see for yourself.
Now, the International Political Forum is probably not a place filled with climate nay-sayers, as this seems to be a relatively young and future oriented crowd. But please watch this video and if you know anybody who stands against climate change, show it to them. Parents, relatives, teachers, preachers, even your elected officials, the message of this video needs to get out. It has only six million views, in a world rapidly approaching seven billion people.
