UN Security Council condemn Syrian aggression
The UN Security Council has condemned the Syria attack on a Turkish town that killed three children and two women. The attack warranted Turkish Parliament to issue an air strike on Syria in a bit to ‘deter’ not ‘create’ war. The condemnation comes despite Russia, Damascus’ ally, trying to block and re-word the statement to include Turkey’s military response. They did however manage to block a previous version of the statement that called the attack on Turkey, “a threat to international peace and security”. The final version called on Syria to “fully respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of its neighbours”.
American tourist kills Israeli, in Israel
An American tourist has opened fire in an Israeli hotel, killing one. Confusion has broken out over the motive or who the man was. There are conflicting reports that suggest the man was a hotel employee and that he snatched the gun from a security guard. Unconfirmed reports that the American has been shot by security forces after locking himself in a room. Hotel guests on the resort were told to stay in their rooms.

Venezuela Presidential election race campaigns climax
The two candidates in Sunday’s Presidential election have both made an address to huge crowds in the capital. President incumbent Hugo Chavez addressed his supporters by saying he needs his third term to fully implement his social reforms, where as his rival Henrique Capriles promises economic growth. More than 30 parties in an informal coalition support him. According to the BBC, it is the closest election in years and if Chavez wins he will have served 20 consecutive years.

Romney says 47% remark wrong
Mitt Romney has said that his comment about 47% of Americans being dependent on the government was “completely wrong”. In a statement to Fox news, he added that his commitments lie in “helping the 100%”. His controversial comments were secretly filmed during September at a fundraising dinner. It hasn’t been since a TV debate with Presidential incumbent Obama this week, that Romney has recovered from the embarrassing episode. Polls suggest he is now back on track to make a serious challenge in the Whitehouse race.

South Africa Miners protest has fatality
A man has died following clashes in South Africa between striking miners and police. The clash occurred in the ‘platinum belt’ where police have denied strong accusations that the man was shot by armed security forces. The clashes have occurred in a series of unrest around the Anglo-American owned mines, where 34 miners and one policeman died last month. According to AFP News Agency, Nearly 30,000 miners have been on strike illegally for nearly a month in a demand for higher wages.
