In another genius move, the mysterious street artist, Banksy, has shifted the world’s attention back to the destruction caused in Gaza during the summer months of 2014.
The Israeli Army’s Operation Protective Edge left 18,000 Palestinian homes destroyed and at least 62 children killed. Amnesty International has since accused Israel of war crimes during the Operation, but as the months have gone by the world seems to have forgotten about the devastation that was caused to thousands of innocent families in the Strip.
In addition to four new pieces of artwork in the region, Banksy also released a short documentary about what he witnessed.
One of the mostly widely shared pieces of graffiti from this new collection has been the image of a cat. Banksy’s explanation for why he chose to plaster a cat on a wall in Gaza is brilliant:
“I wanted to highlight the destruction in Gaza by posting photos on my website – but on the Internet people only look at pictures of kittens.”
