International Women’s Day is upon us once again. While the day has been a constant fixture across the world for almost 100 years, the principle it stands for – gender equality in education, politics and culture – continues to vary in whichever part of the world you live in.
No matter how different we are, all women deserve the same human rights and recognition. While this years theme, ‘Make it Happen’, is all about celebrating women’s achievements across the world, it also points to the fact that there are still many more milestones to cross.
In honour of the occasion, we’ve put together a collection of info graphics that show us the fight for gender equality around the world is far from over, but equally that it has never been more worthwhile.

7) Women in the Media: Girls are Nowhere to be ‘Scene’
“The fact is- women are seriously under-represented across nearly all sectors of the globe. Not just on-screen, but for the most part we’re simply not aware of the extent. And media images exert a powerful influence in creating and perpetuating our unconscious biases. However, media images can also have a very positive impact on our perceptions. In the time it takes to make a movie, we can change what the future looks like. There are woefully few women CEOs in the world. But there can be lots of them in films. How do we encourage a lot more girls to pursue science, technology and engineering careers? By casting loads of women in stem, politics, law, and other professions today in movies.”
