All human beings deserve to be treated with dignity. Here, one victim of the Bangladesh factory collapse, which killed over 1,000 workers, recounts her close to death experience. “I didn’t think anybody could save me,” she says, holding the hands of the reporter. Luckily, this young woman was rescued as the result of the thousands of angry Bangladeshi garment workers who refused to let the military call off the search for victims.
Although some Western companies producing clothing in Bangladesh have signed new safety agreements, the struggles of garment workers continue. Despite the surge of international attention on working conditions, 6 out of 10 factories in Bangladesh are still considered unsafe, yet continue to be occupied by workers.
