Martin Luther King Continues To Inspire 50 Years On

50 years ago on this day, Martin Luther King stood in front of over 200,000 people on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington and delivered the historical “I Have A Dream” speech. This speech would go on to inspire not only an entire civil rights movement in the United States, but many other people all over the world who listened to his words and then went out to fight for their rights. 50 years later, King’s words echo in the hearts of many worldwide as we continue to fight for a fair and equal world for everyone.

 All over the world people will be celebrating accomplishments and analysing setbacks that have occurred since King’s speech. It is a day for many to evaluate how far our human race has progressed, and how much further we have yet to travel till we reach the destination Martin Luther King one day hoped we would make it to.

To mark half a century of Martin Luther King’s vision, BBC Radio 4 has compiled a reciting of the speech by notable figures from around the world. In addition to Luther King’s empowering voice, people like Maya Angelou, Stevie Wonder and the Dalai Lama have come together to produce what is a truly motivating recording of one of the world’s greatest speeches to the backdrop of moving images from America’s civil rights movement.
