I write to you from our starting point in Dubrovnik, however it is in Mostar, in the region of Hercegovina, in Bosnia and Hercegovina where we will first carry out our missions. Tomorrow, we travel there to begin 11 young people of diverse backgrounds’ journey to promote tolerance in these regions.
In Mostar, we will be bringing together children of differing ethnicities, normally split by the city’s infamous divide between Bosnian Muslims and Croats, to play a football tournament with a twist: all of the teams will be mixed-gender, mixed-ethnicity and messages of anti-discrimination will be prevalent throughout the fun. We believe that this is the ideal way that our organisation can help to heal the hatred fuelled in this area between the many ethnic groups – hate that often manifests in football stadiums.
We dream of ending the days where women, children and especially away fans cannot go to a game in the Balkans and just enjoy the beautiful football on show.
