Infographic: Is Social Media Making Us Socially Awkward?

We live in the digital age. Everything is done online or through our super tech savvy cell phones – remember when all cell phones did was make calls and send text messages? Those were the days. Now using your cell phone to call someone seems like a page out of history. Why call when we can text, or WhatsApp, or e-mail, or even Skype them straight from our cell phones?

But why talk to people at all when we can know all we need to know about their lives through social media? Facebook makes sure we know all about their love life, LinkedIn tells us how their job is going, Instagram makes us feel like we were with them on their holiday, and Twitter keeps us posted on their political rants. We’ve become so obsessed with social media – this marvellous thing that “connects” the whole world and brings us all closer together. But does it?

The infographic below reveals some startling statistics about our infatuation with social media, leaving you questioning how much time you spend on it and wondering whether you need to quit updating everyone about what’s happening with you as it happens, and just live your life a little. The world can wait to find out what you had for lunch today. Really. They can.
