It’s been one year since Israel launched Operation Protective Edge in the Gaza Strip. Like any other war, the international media flocked to the region as soon as the war broke out – each one more desperate than the other to get their coverage of the fighting.
And, like any other war, as soon as the fighting was gone, so were the journalists.
But not all the journalists. Local Palestinain journalists stayed behind long after the international correspondents had returned to the comfort of their countries. These Palestinian journalists have lived through the aftermath of the war, many of whom reported on the destruction not just as a journalist – but as someone whose life was being directly affected by the Israeli strikes.
Now, one year on, The Guardian‘s Phoebe Greenwood returns to Gaza to hear about life after the war – from those who reported on it.
