8 Articles You Must Read This World Food Day

Today almost 842 million people worldwide are chronically undernourished. Unsustainable models of development are degrading the natural environment, threatening ecosystems and biodiversity that will be needed for our future food supply. The theme of World Food Day this year is “Healthy People Depend on Healthy Systems”. It is estimated that 30-50% of all food purchased globally goes to waste. Every item of food we throw away has a global consequence; land, water and energy resources all suffer as a consequence of wasting food. Yearly, 1.3 billion tons of food are wasted, which amounts to a cost of 750 billion dollars, 6 times the amount spent on global aid. We’ve pulled together our top 5 articles to give you as much information as possible about food, waste and how this affects people, institutions and processes.
