As the training of the Afghan National Police Force continues, statistics show that women currently make up only 9% of Afghan police recruits, even though women represent half the population of Afghanistan.
Many male officers say working alongside them makes them uncomfortable, and deep-rooted cultural biases in the country are proving to be an impediment to the recruitment of women.
That hasn’t stopped women from joining, though.
