Syria delegate walks out of Summit
Syria’s delegate has walked out of a Non-aligned Movement summit after comments made by Egypt’s incumbent President, Mohammad Mursi. During the summit Mr Mursi told the 120-member summit that there was an “ethical duty” to support the uprising in Syria because it is a “revolution against an oppressive regime”. Adding, that the Syrian crisis parallels that of Palestine where they too are “actively seeking freedom, dignity and human justice”. He is the first Egyptian President to visit the host country of the summit, Iran, since 1979. Syria’s Foreign Minister, Walid Muallem, responded in claims that such comments insight a “continued bloodshed in Syria”.
South Africa miners face murder charges for bloodshed
Miners of the Marikana mine, who saw bloodshed last week in a clash with police, are to face murder charges for the death of their colleagues, an official has said. 34 miners, some of whom are reported to have been armed, and one police officer died in a series of incidents that saw the bloodiest day since the years of apartheid. A prosecuting authority spokesman told the BBC that 270 workers who were protesting over wages would be tried under the “common purpose” doctrine. No police personel have been tried due to internal investigative procedures. It has been reported that a crowd has gathered outside the proceeding’s court in protest of the charges.

Brazilian public sector protests called off
The largest ever-planned industrial action in Brazil has been called off after the majority of workers accepted the government offer of 15.8% pay rise over three years. The protests date back to May, when teachers’ unions went on strike in May this year over wages and career prospects. Despite the strike being called off, the federal police and tax inspectors are amongst those who have not accepted the deal and are due to restart negotiations with the Brazilian government.

Romney running-mate promises American “turnaround”
The Republican vice Presidency candidate, Paul Ryan, has given his first major speech at the party conference in Florida. His speech promised American’s that a Republican White House would face the touch issues and give America a new direction telling the conference that, “After four years of getting the run-around, America needs a turnaround, and the man for the job is Governor Mitt Romney.” Mitt Romney is running the race to the White House in a challenge to incumbent Obama’s administration. In a vague but ambitious speech he added, “The work ahead will be hard. These times demand the best of us – all of us – but we can do this.”

China in $3.5 billion Airbus deal
China has bought 50 planes from Europe’s plant manufacturers ‘Airbus’: a deal worth $3.5 billion. According to Chinese state run media, the country has also signed to assemble planes in the Far East. The deal came after a two-day visit by German Chancellor Angela Merkel whose visits intend to instigate investment and improve relations between China and the EU. The Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said his country intends to invest in the EU in the future.
