This video reminded me of an anecdote I heard once about Alfred Hitchcock receiving a letter from an angry father claiming his daughter now refused to shower after watching Psycho. Hitchcock sent a note back, simply saying ‘send her to the dry cleaners.’
Anyway, apologies for the minor digression. In this Funny or Die video, Samuel L. Jackson tackles a complaint that seems to crop up all too often: parents scapegoating media that’s clearly labelled as unsuitable for children, for leading their kids into bad ways. Like smoking, swearing at their teachers, and… er… getting attacked by sharks.
Jackson and Funny or Die partnered with the website commonsense.org, whose aim is to help parents make responsible decisions with regard to media, by consulting their ratings and age recommendations, and teaching children to engage with media critically. Jackson recorded a general audience message on the same theme here.
