Plastic bottles and plastic paper bags are a threat to our environment. A couple of years back, the government of Kenya abolished plastic paper bags and advocated for bio-degradable carry bags or cloth reusable bags. The private sector threatened to lay off thousands of workers in related industries; this is according to a source from the National Environment Management Authority, killing the move.
The private sector has decided to take up the fight itself this time. A campaign to erase the use of water bottles has been started by private tour companies in the United States of America. Launched in March this year, the campaign advocates travelers to carry a water bottle instead of trashing the environment with many water bottles. Urging travelers to carry tap water that has been treated instead of buying the average three bottles a day.
Tour and travel companies plus travelers are encouraged to join the campaign at no fee, make a pledge stating to do your best to carry a drinking bottle each time you travel. According to the campaign it is easier, cheaper, safer and better for the environment.
The movement is also supporting personally cleaning and treatment of water promising to help one get discounts for the treatment products. However, it can be tasking to treat your own water. So when traveling in a local area one can buy a huge water bottle to sustain the whole trip.
